– Don’t skip your cleanings! –

Brushing your teeth with the proper technique twice a day is extremely important to fend off tooth and gum disease. However, even the best toothbrush and brushing technique can’t replace the need for regular dental cleanings.
Toothbrushes can’t remove the hard build-up of bacteria and minerals called calculus, which inevitably forms on teeth over time. Calculus is great for the harmful bacteria in your mouth, which is now protected beneath this hard debris layer as it damages your teeth and gums.
There is a myth that brushing hard with a toothbrush or using a harder-bristle toothbrush can remove this calculus. This is not true, and both actually do more harm than good (ask your hygienist why at your next appointment)! This is why your regular dental cleanings are so important. Your dental hygienist’s specialized instruments and expertise make short work of calculus and other debris in your mouth, allowing you to brush away the harmful bacteria that’s now exposed and keep your teeth and gums happy and healthy!
Make sure you keep up with your dental cleaning appointments, and go in as often as your dentist and hygienist advise!
