Dental Cleanings
Routine dental cleanings are recommended twice a year to remove the sticky film of bacteria called plaque. Patients with gum disease may require deep cleanings called scaling and root planing. This type of cleaning helps remove the bacteria around the teeth and gums and prevents the bacteria from causing any further damage to the teeth, gums, and bone. Patients with gum disease may need more frequent cleanings to help their gums heal better and faster.
Extractions
A dental extraction is the removal of a tooth due to decay or gum disease. Anesthetic is administered to ensure patients do not feel any pain or discomfort during the procedure. Also, some patients may require the removal of wisdom teeth due to pain, infection or crowding. The removal of wisdom teeth can prevent infections and damage from spreading to neighboring teeth and gums.
Pediatric Dentistry
Children will have a full set of 20 baby teeth by the age of 3. The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends children to have their first dental check-up when their first tooth appears and no later than their first birthday. Comprehensive pediatric dental care includes cleanings, fluoride treatment, white fillings, stainless steel crowns, pulpotomies, space maintainers, and baby tooth extractions.
Root Canals
A root canal is a dental procedure performed to save a natural tooth. At the center of every tooth is the pulp. If there is a fracture or deep decay on a tooth, an infection can start in the pulp. This can result pain, swelling, and sensitivity of the tooth and gums. A root canal removes the infection in the pulp and allows the tooth to be saved.
Veneers
Veneers are thin shells of porcelain placed on the front side of teeth. Veneers can treat stained, chipped, decayed, or crooked teeth and improve one’s confidence in their smile.
Bridges
Bridges can be used to replace one or more missing teeth. A bridge is an appliance that is permanently cemented onto adjacent teeth to replace the open gap and also keep your other healthy teeth in place.
White Fillings
White fillings are also known as composite fillings. These fillings are tooth-colored and blend well with the natural tooth. These fillings can be placed on both front and back teeth.
Crowns
A crown is a ceramic shell that covers an entire tooth to protect it from damage. Crowns are usually recommended instead of a white filling when a tooth is fractured, or the decay is too large to fix with a filling.
